Enugu: Woman, 46 commits suicide after testing positive to HIV

A 46-year-old  woman, identified as one Celestina Mamah from Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has reportedly killed herself after testing positive to HIV/AIDS.

 

The woman committed suicide by stabbing herself  to death in a forest after learning of her status.

A release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Enugu state police command, DSP Ebere Amaraizu said the woman allegedly tested positive to HIV after a test at a nearby hospital.

 

He said that police investigation shows that the victim had left her home on May 28 at about 6pm and headed to a forest  near Ogwu Rest House in  Udenu Local Government Area of the state where she allegedly committed suicide.

 

He said that the corps was found the following day at about 11am.

Saudi Arabia executes Nigerian man after he was convicted of killing a police officer

Saudi authorities have executed a Nigerian man after convicting him of murdering a police officer, AFP reports. It was the 95th execution of the year in the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom, which imposes the death penalty for offences including murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and apostasy. The surge in executions has drawn concern from human rights groups.

Fahd Houssawi was executed on Sunday, May 29 in the western city of Taif, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency. He had been found guilty of strangling a policeman and beating him to death, the ministry said.

Houssawi had knocked the man to the ground before hitting his head repeatedly into the ground, beating him to death. He then injured another man in his attempt to escape.

Amnesty International has warned that at the current rate Saudi Arabia could see more than 100 executions in the first half of 2016.

The London-based watchdog said the kingdom carried out at least 158 death sentences last year, making it the third most prolific executioner after Iran and Pakistan. Its figures do not include secretive China.

The executions this year are higher than at the same point last year, Amnesty said.

Murder and drug trafficking cases account for the majority of Saudi executions, although 47 people were put to death for “terrorism” offences on a single day in January.

Man Steals Motorcycle At Ogun Foursquare Church During Service

The congregation at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Magboro, Ogun State, were stunned on Sunday after a suspected thief sneaked into the church and stole a motorcycle belonging to one of the worshippers. But for the alertness of security guards on the church premises, the suspect would have escaped with the motorcycle. The guards were said to have mobilised some other motorcycle riders in the church, who gave the suspect a chase and arrested him as he was about riding onto the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Upon his arrest, the suspect, who identified himself as Raymon and later Ramoni, said he took to robbery because he was hungry.

CIAPS Names Ambode ‘Governor Of The Year' - Politics

 

A year into office, Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has been judged to be Nigerian 2015/2016 Governor of the Year based on a comparative analysis of Governors’ performance in Nigeria.
This is according to a sttudy conducted by the Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies, CIAPS.

The study tagged CIAPS Governors’ Performance Index (CGPI) is a monthly performance review of what Governors across the country are doing in their offices and it is conducted by the Lagos based Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS).

In a statement released by the Centre, the CGPI coordinator, Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola explained that the variables used as indexes for performance were mathematically calculated and this end of the year’s variables included “Payment of Salary, Infrastructure & Health, Education, Security and Business Opportunity and Employment”. According to Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola, the action of each state governor was monitored and studied from their first day in office and the findings were graded and compared to that of fellow governors across the country.

Nigerian Jailed For 20 Years In Indonesia

A Nigerian national identified as Arinze Eneh has been sentenced to 20 years in jail and fined Rp1.2 billion for facilitating narcotic drug distribution.

"Arinze was proven to have conspired to commit an evil act by becoming a facilitator in the distribution of Category I narcotic drug," chief judge of the West Jakarta district court, Bambang Mursito, said while reading out the verdict on Wednesday, May 18.

In view of that, the panel of judges that had considered all the facts disclosed during the sessions, sentenced the 38-year-old to 20 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rp1.2 billion. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve six months more in jail.

Bayelsa Youths Arrest Agip Pipeline Bombers -

Armed youths from Ikienghenbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have been arrested for vandalising a major oil pipeline with dynamites.

Reports say, the group, which was led by Suoyou, Iyelawei and Fyneboy vandalised the pipeline along the Azuzuama – Ikienghenbiri axis of the trunk line conveying crude oil from the Nigerian Agip Oil Company flow station at Tebidaba to Brass.

A statement issued on Sunday in Yenagoa by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, said the pipeline vandals were apprehended by youths of Azuzuama community, who got wind of the action.

They were arrested with the support of operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and one of them was shot in the leg while trying to escape.

Temisan Omatseye Appeals 5-Year Jail Sentence

CONVICTED former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Temisan Omatseye, has appealed the five year – jail term slammed on him by Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Omatseye was prosecuted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 27-count charge of bid rigging and contract splitting worth N271 million while he was the boss of the maritime regulatory agency.


The former NIMASA boss in the appeal by his lawyer, Edoka Onyeke, is arguing that he was persecuted and not prosecuted, stressing that contract splitting though existing in the law, the approval above threshold does not exist.

The lower court in its judgement noted that the embattled former DG of NIMASA was on suspension.

Burglary: RRS nabs 11 over N2.5m worth of stolen phones

The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)of Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a burglar, a phone dealer and 9 phone users over 65 stolen phones valued at N2.5 million, which were carted away at a burgled shop in Ogba area of the State .

The suspected burglar, Musa Abdullah, 30, who hails from Kano, was arrested on Friday at Abattoir Agege along with a phone dealer over stolen 65 phones belonging to Nelson Mendie, a phone seller in Ogba, Ikeja.

Nelson, 27, a phone seller at 92, Yahaya Abatan, Ogba, had on 24 April, 2016 lodged a  complaint at Ogba Police Station, that his shop was burgled while the then yet- to - be identified  suspect stole 65 phones from his shop leaving behind all the phones packs and their accessories.

I am not from Bayelsa state, but I find the remarks credited to Gov Seriake Dickson where he termed the good people of Bayelsa state, and by extension Ijaw people as lazy. This subject is trending on social media platforms including twitter and palmchat, and I feel slighted.

A shocking new twist has emerged in the tale of the armed robber who was re-arrested in Ghana on Monday 16th May 2016 after controversially absconding under police guard. According to a Facebook post by popular Nigerian ‘Prophet’ T.B. Joshua, the detainment of the notorious suspect in his hometown of Kwetri-Adentia had surprisingly ‘spiritual’ undertones.

Kweku Yeboah, the alleged leader of a brutal robbery attack near Sunyani, Ghana on Monday 2nd May 2016, escaped from police custody several days later whilst being nursed at a hospital for injuries he sustained during the incident.

With the suspect on the loose and fear rife in the community, the policeman under whose watch Yeboah escaped was instantly implicated and given a ten-day ultimatum to produce him or face disciplinary action.

According to Joshua’s Facebook page, the policeman in question decided to seek ‘Divine intervention’ by visiting Joshua’s church after six days of frantic searching had elapsed without any sign of success. “I had a suspect escape from my custody in the hospital when I was detailed to guide him,” Constable Edwin Akpalu is seen narrating in an accompanying video uploaded to Facebook, adding that he faced expulsion from the police and a probable prison sentence.

Groom files for divorce from bride on wedding night for being too busy texting

A groom filed for divorce from his bride on their wedding night because she was busy texting her friends instead of having sex with him. A relative said after the wedding ceremony the Saudi bride and groom went to their hotel room in Manama in Bahrain and when he tried to consummate their marriage, his wife decided to use that time to reply friends who had sent their congratulations.

The same relative said the groom asked her to stop texting she refused and became angry. He added:

"When he asked her if her friends were more important than he was, the bride answered that they were."

During the heated argument between them, the groom told her he was divorcing her and left the hotel.

The relative said that the groom filed for a divorce, the case was filed and the court referred it to the reconciliation committee to see if the newly-weds could be reconciled. But the groom refused to withdraw the case insisting he was no longer in being married to the bride and that the divorce case should proceed.

Wike Sacks Kelvin Wachuku As Commissioner 6 Months After Appointment

The Rivers state Government have relieved Kelvin Wachuku of his position as the Commissioner for Works in the state.

Consequently, Governor, Nyesom Wike has appointed Bethel Iheanyichuku as the new Commissioner for Works.

The Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier screened and confirmed Iheanyichuku as a Commissioner-designate.

His screening followed a request by Governor Wike.

Iheanyichuku hails from Ogbogoro in Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers State.

Swearing-in the new Commissioner, Wike took a swipe at Wachuku, accusing him of laxity.

He said his administration will not tolerate complacency as he was determined to develop Rivers State.

“I have a covenant with the people of Rivers state to develop this state. And anybody that is going to work with me must work at my speed and not at your own speed.

“Nobody should come and drag me back like the former Commissioner. If you are handling any project, you should be the one to brief me and not me briefing you,” Wike said.

Donald Trump says new London mayor Sadiq Khan is exempt from Muslim US ban

US Presidential candidate Donald Trump says that newly elected London Mayor Sadiq Khan who is a Muslim is exempt from his Muslim US ban if he becomes president.

Mayor Khan had earlier said that he had to go to America before November 2016 so he won't be banned in case Trump becomes President. But the Billionaire business man says that the new Mayor is an exemption from his previous comments on banning Muslims entering into the US if he becomes president.

On Monday he said he was “happy” that London had elected its first Muslim Mayor and suggested that Khan would be among the exceptions to his proposal.

“There will always be exceptions,” Mr. Trump said when asked in an interview with New York Times on Monday how his proposed ban would affect London’s new mayor, Sadiq Khan.

“I was happy to see that,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. Khan’s election. “I think it’s a very good thing, and I hope he does a very good job because frankly that would be very, very good.”

Asked why, Mr. Trump said, “Because I think if he does a great job, it will really — you lead by example, always lead by example. If he does a good job and frankly if he does a great job, that would be a terrific thing.”

Mr. Khan, in an interview with Time magazine after his election, said

“If Donald Trump becomes the president I’ll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can’t engage with American mayors and swap ideas,”

Former Akwa Ibom governor arrested for receiving N450m from Diezani’s alleged $115m election Largesse

As the investigation into the funding of the PDP 2015 election campaign continues, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arrested a former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State and chieftain of PDP, Idongesit Nkanga, for allegedly receiving N450 million Naira from the $115 million deposited by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke with Fidelity Bank Plc meant for rigging the 2015 general election.‎

Premiumtimes reports that the retired air commodore was arrested in Port- Harcourt in the Rivers State. He is alleged to have collected the money in two tranches, from one Saint-Anthony Ejiowu, a staff of Fidelity Bank in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. The first tranche of the money – N350,000,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Million Naira only) was paid to the politician on March 27th last year.

He reportedly received the second tranche of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira only) on March 31st last year.

A source in the antigraft agency said

“He is in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to court soon,”

Two police officers shot dead by armed robbers in Delta state

Two police officers identified as Usman Adamu and Usman Ango, were shot dead by armed robbers at Airport road junction in Warri, Delta state yesterday May 9th. Enugu state Police Commissioner redeployed over Fulani Herdsman attacks

The Enugu state Commissioner for Police, Nwodibo Ekechukwu(above), has been redeployed from the state following last Monday's attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Nimbo community in the state which led to the death of many and destruction of several properties.

17 year old boy in Benue murders his mother for ritual purposes

A 17year-old boy named Agayo Iorzenda, has been arrested by the Benue State Police Command, for killing his mother in Katsina/Ala Local Government Area. He claimed she was allegedly responsible for him being 'impotent'.

According to Vanguard, he was paraded at the Place Command Headquarters. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Yakadi, revealed that the suspect who was caught by the Police after the incident, allegedly shot his mother with a locally-made gun after an Oracle revealed that she was a witch and had used his manhood, rendering him impotent.

Speaking to reporters, the culprit said:

“I went to consult the oracle over my impotence and I was told that my mother used my manhood for witchcraft and rendered me impotent. She did not want me to be a man. So my friend advised me to kill her so as to use her blood to acquire spiritual powers that will help me become rich and also do many other things. That was why I shot her.”

The Police are still conducting investigations, after which he would face trial.
