Lagos Government To Host AMAA 2017 At The National Theatre - TV/Movies


Five years after a whistle stop in Lagos for its eighth edition, the African Movie Academy Awards, popularly referred to as AMAA awards, will be back in the Centre of Excellence.

We exclusively gathered that the pan-Africa awards aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture, has received the nod of governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to be this year’s host state.

It was gathered that the governor on Thursday held a meeting with the top executives of the AMAA Awards at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja with seven key members of the Lagos State Exco in attendance.

Train Goes Through The Centre Of A 19-storey Block Of Flats In China(photos).

A light railway track has been built to go through a hole in a residential 19-storey building in China, a bid to solve the space crisis in the city of Chongqing, China.

Kidnapping victim who escaped by jumping out of car trunk reveals how her insulin pump helped her make the brave escape


Video footage emerged last week of a brave kidnapping victim who escaped her abductor by jumping out of a car trunk at a gas station in Alabama (read here). The woman has been identified as Brittany Diggs, 25, and she has shared the story of how she was able to pull off the escape.


In an interview with the Today Show, Brittany, who is a nursing student, said her abductor threatened to kill her if she didn't withdraw cash from her bank accounts and ATM card. He forced her into her car trunk and was driving her to Birmingham where he was to withdraw the money. He also forced her to give him her PIN number after he found her wallet with her cards in the car.

Passengers feared injured as plane crashes during landing in South Sudan

A plane carrying 44 passengers has crashed in South Sudan. The South Supreme Airliner burst into flames after crash landing at the Wau Airport at about 3 p.m. local time. The crash is believed to have occurred when the plane came down to land after flying from Juba to Wau.
Initial reports from local news sources suggested that everybody on board died in the crash. However, new details have emerged that everybody survived.

Mercy Johnson speaks on appointment as Governor Bello’s Senior Special Assistant

Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has promised to serve the people of Kogi State with her wealth of experience, after she was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, Arts and Culture by Governor Yahaya Bello.
She was appointed along with 62 others on Tuesday.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, she wrote: “I am gratified with the official notification reaching me on my Appointment as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Kogi State on Entertainment, Arts and Culture.

Photos: 26 Nigerians arrested by immigration police for living, working illegally in Cambodia

Immigration police on Wednesday, March 15th, arrested 26 Nigerians in Chom Chao, near Phnom Penh's Por Senchey district for living and working in Cambodia without valid visas and/ or passports.
  
Major General Ouk Heisela, director of inspection at the Interior Ministry’s General Department of Immigration, said the group was taken for questioning after their arrest.
Officers found only 10 had passports, while 16 had no travel documents at all. The 10 with passports but no work permits will be fined and released. The rest will be deported back to Nigeria"
  "Some came here to play or coach soccer and some have no proper job,” the director told Khmer Times.  
“Some crossed the border to live in Cambodia illegally."

Court remands former NNPC boss, Andrew Yakubu, in Kuje prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Former Managing Director of NNPC, Andrew Yakubu in Kuje prison pending the hearing of his bail application on March 21st.

The former NNPC boss is being investigated for corruption after $9.6 million and £72,000 was found inside a fireproof safe at his home in Kaduna state on February 10th.

Letter bomb explodes at IMF office in France, one employee injured

A female employee of the International Monetary Fund was injured in the face and arms on Thursday March 16th when a letter bomb posted to the world lender's Paris office blew up as she opened it.
According to the Chief of French Police force,  Michel Cadot, The explosiom was caused by a homemade device "It was something that was fairly homemade," he said.
