It has been the easiest day I can recall in nearly ten years - no wake up calls or knocks on my bedroom door, no packed schedules from Adejoh Momoh, no running up and down to meet timelines, and no early security reports to read and issue directives!!

Raymond Dokpesi Is Dead - Politics -



Raymond Dokpesi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and founder, DAAR Communications plc, has died at the age of 71.

A family member confirmed this to THE WHISTLER on Monday, saying the media mogul died at a hospital in Abuja.

According to the family source who doesn’t want to be mentioned, Dokpesi had suffered a stroke shortly after the recent Ramadan fast and had been managing his health since.

How Terror Suspect Blew Up Self After Gun Battle With DSS, Soldiers - Politics

 

According to eyewitnesses, gunshots were heard around 1 am when officials from the Department of State Services (DSS), soldiers, and the police arrived at the suspect’s residence.

Daily Trust gathered that when the man realised he was surrounded, he resorted to using explosives to end his life.

He was said to have exchanged gunfire with the security operatives before taking his life.

Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Charge to Court (Abuse of Human Right)

 

The Lagos State Government has arraigned the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, Frederick Nwajago, for alleged terrorism.

He was arraigned before the state high court sitting Tafawa Balewa Square on nine counts, in which he was accused of “attempt to do acts of terrorism, participation in terrorism, meeting to support a proscribed entity, attempt to finance an act of terrorism and preparation to commit an act of terrorism, preferred against him by the state government.”

Chioma Ajunwa Decorated Deputy Commissioner Of Police

Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, was on Thursday decorated as a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The officer was decorated by her new boss, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba.

Ajunwa made history as the first Nigerian to win gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

Inlaws Force Widow To Drink Corpse Water Of Husband's Nephew In Anambra

 

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned a 75-year-old man, Albert Eligbue, for allegedly forcing a widow, Patricia Eligbue, to drink water used to bathe the corpse of her husband's nephew.

Eligbue, from Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state, was arraigned in the Children, Sexual and Gender- Based Violence Court in Awka, the state capital on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Presidential Poll Dispute: You Can’t Stand In For Tinubu, Court Tells Gov Lalong



The Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from standing before it as the representative of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The Plateau state governor had immediately the first petition that was lodged against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election was called up, stood up and announced himself as Tinubu’s representative.

Barring any last-minute changes, the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) will today May 8 commence hearing the petitions challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as the president-elect.

Recall that on March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, declared Tinubu the winner of the February 25 presidential election, This declaration has however been rejected by two of the contending Presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. In separate petitions, Obi and Atiku they asked the tribunal to grant orders to annul the election or declare them the winners of the polls.

El-rufai: I Am Not Interested In Tinubu's Appointment -



Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has dispelled the rumours of him jostling to become Chief of Staff in President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

El-Rufai stated this in Gombe on Saturday while addressing newsmen.

El-Rufai was in the state to inaugurate the construction of 550 housing units and Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Service Centre.

There are indications that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has settled for Tajudeen Abbas and Ben Kalu as speaker and deputy speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, a move that leaves the North-central zone out of the top six positions.

Mr Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna State North-west, was picked as the preferred candidate during a meeting held on Friday afternoon at the Defence House, the official residence of the president-elect it was learnt.

Mr Kalu, a lawmaker from Abia State, South-east, was picked to balance what has now become a joint ticket.

President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, caused a stir at the coronation of King Charles III in London today May 6, when he came in struggling to walk.

 The Gabonese leader suffered a stroke while at a conference in Saudi Arabia on October 2018 and is yet to fully recover. He succeeded his father and party founder, Omar Bongo Ondimba, after his death in 2009. His party has urged him to seek re-election despite his health challenges. Gabonese will go to the polls in August this year.
