Umahi Appoints 513 Additional Aides - Politics


Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has approved the appointment of 513 additional aides to serve as his Technical Assistants (TA).

The governor’ Principal Secretary, Chief Clement Nweke, who made this known in a statement in Abakaliki on Wednesday, said the appointees were drawn from the 171 political wards in the state.

Ikpeazu Dissolves Abia Traditional Rulers Council - Politics


Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State Governor, has approved the dissolution of the leadership of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers with immediate effect.

This was contained in a terse statement issued by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu and made available to IgbereTV on Thursday morning.

The deputy governor-elect in Bayelsa State, Senator Biobarakuma Degi has said that the governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP , Senator Douye Diri lost the November 16 governorship election because his principal sponsor and incumbent governor of the state, Gov Seriake Dickson imported and engaged the services of Indian spiritualists ahead of the poll.

Blackout Looms As Gencos Threaten Shutdown Over Charge - Politics


Nigeria may experience widespread blackout soon as power generation companies have unanimously agreed to call the bluff of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company by shutting down power production and supply.

At a briefing in Abuja on Sunday, the Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies, an umbrella body for the power firms, Joy Ogaji, said NBET’s insistence to impose a 0.75 per cent administrative charge on Gencos for payment of gas invoices was the reason for the imminent power shutdown by Gencos.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State Chief David Lyon, has described the ongoing election in the state as peaceful.

Lyon, who cast his vote at Olugbobiri Ward 4, Unit 1, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state at 1:18 p.m., said he was sure of victory and sue for peace in the state.

Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Kolo, Ogbia Local Government Area trooped out to celebrate the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 9.

They took over the road leading to Ogbia Town immediately the results of the 13 units in Ward 9 were announced by electoral officials and APC was declared the winner of the ward.

Two Containers Fall On Vehicle In Onitsha


The FRSC confirmed on Monday that two persons sustained injuries at Onitsha in Anambra when two containers fell off an articulated vehicle at Upper Iweka on the Onitsha-Owerri highway.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m.

Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State has been witnessing tragedies week after week in recent times, especially at Upper Iweka, a hot spot in the city that is also home to many transport companies.

Nine suspected cyber fraudsters, along with a woman, were arrested afresh in Enugu on Friday by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office.  
The cybercrime suspects were arrested at Mexmemphis Properties and Apartments, Maryland District, Enugu. The suspects were named as Precious Ibegbulem, Michael Odishi,Ebuka Kenneth, Akabuke Beluolisa, Chibueze Ezeagwu, Nnamdi Maduekwe, Kingsley Orazulike and Uche Nwosu.
