Another candidate vying for electoral office in Nigeria's ongoing
campaign has died with Professor Solomon Olamilekan the Labour Party
candidate in Ogun West Senatorial District passing away yesterday.
Professor Olamilekan, 54, complained of a stiff neck three days ago and
was subsequently rushed to a private hospital where he gave up the ghost
Sunday Oginni, the secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the Labour
Party, described the death as shocking as the candidate was busy
campaigning when he fell ill and hitherto had been very healthy.
This is the second such casualty suffered during the
course of the campaigns after Bola Amole, the proprietor of Bims African
Foods store in southeast London died while campaigning in Oyo State.
Ms Amole was standing as a member of parliament for the Egbeda /Ona-Ara federal constituency in Oyo State as an Accord Party candidate, Nigerian news watch reports . It was rumoured that Ms Amole was murdered under mysterious circumstances by assassins at her home in Nigeria. Other reports suggested that Ms Amole died in her sleep overnight of a heart attack.
