Nigerian man charged before Dubai court for possessing and attempting to sell 4kg of drugs

A 35-year-old Nigerian man denied possessing more than four kilograms of marijuana with the intention to sell when he appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court today, April 5.
The man was arrested on January 20 2016 after police were tipped off that he was trying to sell the marijuana for Dh9,500 per kilogram.
An undercover officer had contacted the man and arranged to meet him to buy some of the drugs for Dh6,000.
On the day of the arrest, the man arrived in a Nissan Patrol and asked the undercover officer to follow him, prosecutors say. The two parked near a supermarket in Al Muraqqabat. When the officer got into the man’s car, police arrived and he was arrested.
A police witness said 4,7kg of marijuana was found in the man’s possession. He told officers it belonged to him.
The man was charged with possessing drugs to sell and with consuming hashish, which he denied in court. The next hearing will be on April 26.
