Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano surprised entire citizens of the
state when he set 25 prisoners serving in three different prisons in the
state free in commemoration of the country's 55th independence
celebrations.
The governor didn't end his benevolence act by only granting the prisoners amnesty but he also announced his decision to reward the 25 ex-cons with a lifeline of N1m each.
According to numerous reports, ex-cons, who were from Awka, Onitsha and Aguata prisons include Obumneme Okafor, Chibike Nwogwu, Daniel Philemon, Ude Chidiebere, and Innocent Okeke.
Others include Chinedu Onyebuchi, Okwudili Offor, Emmanuel Enemchukwu, Nwafor Reuben, Camilus Ikensor, Cyril Ogufuba and 14 others.
In the words of the governor, “Brothers and sisters, I see hope for Anambra State. I see hope for Nigeria. It is along this line that I have decided to give hope to the hopeless amongst us by exercising my powers of prerogative of mercy and granting amnesty to 25 prisoners serving different terms in the three prisons in Anambra State.”
Corroborating the words of the governor, the state's Attorney General, Mr. Chude Nnadi, said the inmates were qualified for the amnesty because some of them had only three months left in prison.
