Ekweremadu, Wife Sue NIMC, NIS, Banks Over David Ukpo’s Real Age -

 


Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, have sued the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and others over the controversy surrounding David Ukpo’s real age.

Others mentioned in the suit are the Comptroller General (C-G), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS); Stanbic-IBTC Bank; United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc as 2nd to 5th respondents respectively.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekweremadu and his wife were, on Thursday, remanded in the UK police custody, after they were arraigned before the  Uxbridge Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy to facilitate the travel of Ukpo, alleged to be a minor, for organ harvesting.

The couple, however, denied the allegations and the court adjourned till July 7 for hearing.

Three Burnt To Death In Bayelsa Auto Crash (Graphic) - Travel -



 Three Persons were burnt to death in a fatal road accident along the East-West Road in Bayelsa State on Monday night, June 20.

It was gathered that the accident which occurred at Opokuma junction involved a Toyota Camry with registration number LS 529 KY and a Mazda 323 with registration number GBB 532 XA.

Bus Driver Kills Colleague, Abandons Corpse At Lagos Park - Crime

 The Body of a Bus Driver was abandoned in a Lagos park after he was killed by a colleague in the Berger area of Lagos.


The Deceased, identified only as Wasiu, was alleged to have been dumped close to the entrance of the park.


Wasiu, who plied the Ishaga-Fagba route, had a confrontation with a colleague from another park on Sunday, June 19, and this resulted in a fight between them, Punch reports.


An eyewitness told the publication: "Wasiu picked a fight with someone at the park and went to pick a bottle. But when he smashed it on the ground, the broken pieces hit the baby of a nearby alcohol seller; the little child started bleeding."


When the baby's father, identified as Ikman, was informed, he reportedly mobilised his colleagues and attacked Wasiu until he became unconscious.



Another source told the publication: "Ikman was a close friend to Wasiu. He also drives a commercial bus plying the Berger-Obalende route. Wasiu would not have died, but Ikman deliberately left him unconscious on the floor after the attack without any attempt to revive him."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to the alleged discriminatory stance against the candidates nominated by some political parties for the 2023 general elections.

At the close of the submission of the list of candidates by political parties on June 17, the ruling APC forwarded the names of some of its candidates who reportedly did not participate in its primaries and were therefore ineligible to be on the ballot in the general elections.

Vote Buying: Ribadu Asks Court To Nullify Binani’s Victory


Nuhu Ribadu, one of the aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last month’s primary in Adamawa State, has asked a Federal High Court in the state to cancel the exercise won by Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani.

Binani had defeated Ribadu and other heavyweights in the election fraught with controversy.

Due to Binani’s absence in court, the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice A.M Anka, ordered substituted service on her.

The order followed an ex-parte application filed on the 20th of June, 2022, by I. M. Dikki Counsel to the Plaintiff.

Ribadu dragged Binani and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging vote buying and over voting during the APC primaries.

Daily Trust learnt that the bailiffs of the Court tried to serve the respondent with the process but could not have access to her hence, the ex-parte application.

Counsel to Ribadu asked the court to nullify the primary.

The suit was adjourned to the 29th June, 2022, for hearing.

 While reacting to the latest development, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, described the case as "a very serious one.

"To get involved with a child as young as 16yrs is not something I and the association I do not represent, would not stand for. This is a very sad development involving a member of ours, but I wouldn’t want to comment any further on this case," he said.

Passengers Stranded As Fuel Scarcity Hits Lagos - Politics


 

Many passengers were stranded at various bus stops in Lagos State, Monday morning, as commercial vehicles were scarce on the road.

The scarcity of vehicles was attributed to the fuel scarcity, which was gradually building up in some parts of Lagos.

Our correspondent saw that many people were stranded at major bus stops along Ogba-Berger road, such as Aguda, college road, among others.
